12V Accessory Power Outlet Socket for Trunk/Cargo Area

Many Volvo wagon, crossover & SUV models were equipped from the factory with a 12V Accessory socket (round cigarette lighter style plug) in the cargo area.  

This 12V outlet is "always on" so anything you plug in here could potentially drain your car battery if left in operation for too long without the car running.

In addition to using this for something like a 12V cooler, you could also use it for a solar charging panel.

If your Volvo does not have a cargo area accessory outlet, it may be possible to add one if your car already has the appropriate wiring in place. 

Product Fitment Notes & Potential Issues

If your car already has an outlet this part can be used to directly replace a broken part without any compatibility checks.

If your car does not already have a cargo area accessory socket then please consider the following:

P1 models

We believe all P1 models are pre-wired for the accessory outlet, but you need to verify this on your car.

P2 models

It appears that Volvo started adding the wiring as standard equipment on P2 models around the middle of the 2005 model year. 

Volvo used to sell accessory kit 9499014 for early P2 model to add this socket to early cars that didn't have the socket, but has since discontinued that kit.

Please verify that your car has the appropriate wiring before ordering. The wiring is normally on the right side behind the carpet liner of the trunk.  The plug has two "spade" style connectors at a 90° offset from each other (see images.)

P3 models

Volvo's documentation is not clear on P3 models. 

It appears that most P3 wagon, crossover and SUV models have this socket standard.  Sedan models *may* need Volvo accessory wiring kit 31435603 but the listings are unclear.   Kit 31435603 includes this socket plus the parts needed to add it. 

It's best to check if the wiring already exists in your vehicle.

Adding an outlet if your car doesn't have one

If your car does not already have an outlet you can easily add one if your car is pre-wired for it. 

You will need a 1-1/8th inch drill bit to cut the hole in the carpet. Sometimes the backside of carpet has markings. Volvo's VIDA system has measurements for where to locate the socket but the location isn't really critical, you just want it where cargo won't slide in to it and there is room for the socket on the back. Higher up is better.
