Drive Shaft Cv Joint Kit Front

In AWD Volvos, the driveshaft/propeller shaft connects the transmission (via the angle gear) to the rear axle. The rubber boot protecting the driveshaft's front CV joint tends to prematurely crack and tear thanks to the heat of the nearby exhaust downpipe; unlike, say, front axle joints, a failed boot here is so far underneath the car that you may only notice it after it's flung out all of its grease and the joint has started clicking or vibrating.

This kit replaces this troublesome front CV joint of your P1 or P2 Volvo's AWD driveshaft (the rear CV joint is not replaceable). The kit includes everything you need to completely R&R the joint, including the CV joint itself, joint c-clip, boot cover and gaskets, boot clips, joint cover/end cap, and grease.

Product Fitment Notes & Potential Issues

This joint is for a 24 spline shaft, with a 78mm (~3in) joint o.d., with the joint normally marked HLJ75 on the side. Checking for this stamp on the side of the joint is the most reliable way to determine fitment; driveshafts with this joint usually came on the cars below:

• P2 V70XC and XC70, chassis 95000 and up
• P2 V70 AWD (including R models), chassis 286000 and up
• P2 XC90 2.5T AWD, chassis 650001 and up
• P2 S60 AWD (including R models) 2003 and up
• P2 S80 2.5T AWD
• P1 S40 AWD
• P1 V50 AWD

Some P2 models, such as high output V8 models and early V70 AWD/V70 XC models with viscous couplers, use different driveshafts.
