Does My Volvo 240 Have EGR And What Is It?
Some 1988-1993 240 models have EGR and it affects the application of some of the components on the car such as the Header (down) pipe.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in petrol/gasoline and diesel engines.
In a typical automotive spark-ignited (SI) engine, 5 to15% of the exhaust gas is routed back to the intake as EGR.
You should be able to tell if your 240 has EGR by looking at the components in the image on this page. Only EGR equipped models have these parts.
The manifold pictured in the image is the Intake manifold. There is tubing running from the EGR valve to the exhaust manifold right above where the header pipe attaches.
